This week the FDA approved Lipfendra (enlicitide), a once-daily pill and the first oral PCSK9 inhibitor for high cholesterol. CP3's Dr. Tim Anderson spoke with TribLIVE on what this means for patients.
For those who can't tolerate statins or need more powerful results, Anderson noted that drugs like Lipfendra are now an important "tool in the toolbox" for clinicians. But with a 30-day supply priced at $315 compared to roughly $58 for a generic statin, cost remains a significant factor in treatment decisions. He also noted that statins continue to be the go-to option for most patients, and that's unlikely to change anytime soon.
